Stars in the Sky Safety Policy
- All applicants will be met and interviewed before becoming a member.
- All applicants will need to show proof of address.
- If there are concerns Stars in the Sky may ask for a referral from a care manager or appropriate care provider.
- All new applicants are given the Stars in the Sky safety guidelines. These are provided in an accessible format for all new applicants.
- Events have a sufficient number of staff to manage the event.
- The first one-to-one meetings are chaperoned by stars in the sky.
- If people want to meet again Stars in the Sky will support members to get the support to do this.
- Stars in the Sky won’t provide transport (except at larger events); personal care, counselling or advice services but will help and support members to access the right services. Stars in the Sky are not a care provider.
- All staff at Stars in the Sky are CRB checked and receive on-going training in health and safety issues.
- Stars in the Sky work with specialist organisations to have understanding of issues that may affect members.
- Stars in the Sky keep up to date on all relevant legislation.
- Any member who is proven to physically, financially or sexually abuse another member of Stars in the Sky will lose their membership. All crimes or suspected crimes will be reported to the police.
- Abuse or discrimination of any member on the grounds of disability, race, colour, religion, sexuality, gender will not be tolerated and result in the losing of membership. All crimes or suspected crimes will be reported to the police.
- Verbal abuse will not be tolerated and may result in the loss of membership, consideration will be given to members who have challenging behaviour or communication difficulties.
- Receipts are given for all payments to Star in the Sky. Financial records are available to all members. Star in the Sky is a social enterprise any profit is to be invested in services to support adults with learning difficulties to develop their own business ideas. The memorandum of association is available to all members. All members will be invited to the AGM and 70% of the management committee will be members.
- Stars in the Sky will strive to make sure all information is accessible to all members.
